Lime Crime Velvetines Wear Review

After trying for ages to source these at Lime Crime's website, and they being continously out of stock, I finally tracked each color down in 2 seperate online Australian stores! Yes, a lot more expensive way of getting them, but I was just happy at finally sourcing both colors!

So, how do they wear?

Red Velvet.

My swatches. This was 2 coats.

Online promo swatch.
As you can see, my lips looks nothing like the online color even after 2 coats. Even after several coats I can't see this lipstick turning out as dark as the promo swatch....maybe a bit of photoshopping went on?

This is after 6 hours, breakfast and lunch. The tackiness turns into little dried 'balls' of lipstick after eating. (Love my super technical way of explaining things?!)   It is necessary to wipe down your mouth to get them off. So after all this wiping and eating I was surprised to look in the mirror and see I was still wearing color on my lips, even if it didn't look perfect.

Suedeberry

Stop looking at that errant eyebrow hair on my lip and thinking it's a moustache.

Application is a little more tricky with Suedeberry. The first coat is always patchy and streaky, so I wait till that is dried and apply a second coat. A third coat is also needed to be free of streaks completely. As a result of so many coats, my lips feel very tacky and dry.

This is after 2.5 hrs and a Subway lunch. Wear is not as long as Red Velvet, but I do attribute this to the patchy formula.

Would I re-buy?  I do have to think hard but probably not.  The concept is great and the colors are very nice.  But the texture and feel of them on my lips is too unusual for me to handle for very long.  As I said, it feels like hours old lipgloss gone tacky and 'ball-y' and makes me feel a little conspicious thinking I have food on my mouth.  It is nice to scrub it off completely and put on vaseline!

I did read that there are new colors in Lime Crime's pipeline so it will be interesting to see what they look like.

Anyone else have any thoughts on the Velvetines?

  1. I love the idea but sad it wasn't as dark as you'd hoped. I keep thinking that I'll just pass on these lippies.

  2. They look really nice, it's a shame red velvet isn't as dark as the online swatches but I think lime crime are known for editing their pics! X

    1. Oh dear, really? That seems really wrong.

    2. Can you think of a makeup company that doesn't edit their photos for promo and compaign?

  3. Love the colors but it's really too bad that they didn't stand up to what they claim. I try to avoid buying makeup I can't try on. Which is why I haven't invested in a Besame lipstick. I know they get rave reviews but I have to see if I like it.

    1. Besame lipsticks are lovely. I have 2 but confess to buying the first one just for the packaging.....

  4. Oh wow, I really was hoping that the red velvet was as dark as they posted. Something about the online promo shot made it look perfect, not to dark and not too light with the perfect saturation. I'm disappointing, but glad that you shared this.

    1. Yes, the online promo photo shows it as a perfect color. I knew it looked *too* perfect tho...if it seems too good to be true then it usually is!!

  5. I'm so surprised! I was actually thinking about the red velvet as it looked like such a nice colour...I would have been pretty annoyed if I had got it because that is so different from the rich dark red it is advertised as. That said, I think the suedeberry one is a beautiful colour but I'm not sold on the texture. Hmm.

Would you say it is kiss proof though? I am always on the lookout for something kiss proof, by which I mean that it won't leave a big mark from a kiss on the cheek, not pash proof :P

    1. Nope, its not kiss proof. Marks are always on the kids/hubbys face when I wear them. After talking about these on a forum, I have found out that all Lime Crime promo photos are photoshopped. Not happy.

  6. Seudeberry is absolutely stunning! Consistency sounds odd though.

    1. It's a great color but needs work to look that way.

  7. Can I just say - your skin is perfect!

  8. LipSense is so much better. I also hate the feeling of crumbles on my lips. LipSense also has both matte and glossy toppers.

  9. Suedeberry is simply gorgeous! Both look wonderful on you, honey. I'm sorry that they didn't quite live up to your expectations. That happens so very often with lip products, doesn't it?
