I Chopped My Hair and Now Need Help

My hair was dead.  Really, truly dead.  And needed to go.  But it was still a shock, and a week later I am still trying to come to grips with styling and wearing short hair after 20 years of it halfway down my back.

The styling process has gone thru a few horrifying initial stages.......

Like using Hot Sticks.  Fail.  The sticks are much too small, giving me a 30's curl which is a HUGE no-no.

Brushing out a slightly larger stick curl.  The slight frizz curl look was a little bit better than the above Miss Daisy Lou one but still not right......

I used a very large roller and 4 of them sit around my head perfectly.  I rolled to my ears and they simply curled underneath with not much trouble.  The overall effect gives me a slight 15th Century Minstrel Musician look.....but after popping on a headscarf, I think I am quite happy with this hairstyle.

And fabulous glasses makes it look a little better.  But I cannot wear a headscarf every day for the next 6 months.

So, I now need styling tips please!  You can see the length of my hair from the first picture, who can point me to some fabulous styles I need to try and accomplish?

  1. This will take a little time, but use a medium curling iron and curl section of hair toward face, then roll them up and clip to cool, continue around entire head. Let rolls cool for about 20 minutes, spray curls while cooling, then brush out. This is how they style January Jones' hair on Mad Men.

    1. Thanks Lorna! I can't sleep in rollers, so I do heated ones in the AM. I'm still playing around with them!

  4. I quite like the really curly short look on you! I also like the brushed out style. You have inspired me to be brave and go and have a hair cut as I desperately need one.

  5. Do you pincurl set? I tried a midi cut and about died when i tried to style- it was SO short! A pincurl set and a good Denman or Mason-Pearson brush- brush srush, and keep brushing! I ended up watering down my setting lotion. Good luck- it's easy now, but I did grow my hair out again, lol

    1. I think I would expire if I did a Midi on my hair now. It would be way too short for my liking. Thx for the tips!
