A Big Fat Gold Fail

Ideas in your brain don't always turn out as planned.

I had a Lady Gaga jagged black design idea going on with super blingy gold in my brain and it looked FAB! But it looked truly gross on the nails.

This was 3 coats of Essence Make it Golden. Blechhhh. I should have done a gold base coat, but after 2 coats in on each nail...I just couldn't be bothered starting over.

Then I painted some truly horrid black jagged lines and filled them in. Finished with a coat of Seche QD.......Then quickly took it all off again!!

  1. If I was a non-blogger, no-nothing...I would see this and say 'What the Hell?!' But I do appreciate what you were going for. It's like I know what you wanted to create. It just didn't translate.

    Thanks for sharing.

  2. I'm with Kim, I can definitely see what you were going for, just did not translate well from mind to nail. Really creative thinking though!

  3. Bahaha! I have those blogger mindfarts too - where I think something looks awesome but really looks horrid. I can see what you were going for though! I agree, I would've gone with a metallic gold base or a gold without chunky glitter.

  4. This is probably a blogger mindfart of my own, but maybe it would look better with the black bits on the tips...? Or maybe just black to about halfway up the nail. Um, probably best to try my poorly-thought-out suggestions on one nail at a time... :P

    1. Halfway up would have been much better. And the tips probably even better.....but I had to follow my "mindfart" at the time!

  5. OMG - It's nice to know that I'm not the only one who comes up with ideas that turn into a nail disaster!

  6. You tried sweetie! Stinks when your great ideas don't work out. There's so many coats to do so who wants to start over. Looking forward to your next gorgeous manicure.

  7. Thankyou for posting it anyway. I like the colour combo its just not a perfect first try, thats all. Makes me feel better about my nail weirdo moments.

  8. I learned a while ago that glitters always look awful on me without a base coat of a matching/contrasting colour... I don't know why but it is always true!

Thanks for sharing your fail... it's nice to know it's not just me!

  9. At least you got out of your comfort zone! I seem to be stuck in a purple polish rut. I think that essence would be beautiful over a dusty blue!
