Vintage Red Lipstick Swatches #2

For reference, my first red lipstick post is HERE.    And since then, well, I have accumulated quite a few more red lippies!  I cleaned and culled my makeup case the other morning, and swatched the new ones while I was at it.

From Left to Right:  Illamasqua Tramp, Secret Kisses Velvet, Secret Kisses Kiss, Sleek Vixen, MAC Red, MAC Ronnie Red, Revlon Really Red, Revlon In The Red, Gade Red Signature, Illamasqua Sangers and MUA Bring It.

Artificial light. Click for large pics

Natural light. Click for larger pics. Illamasqua Tramp, Secret Kisses Velvet, Secret Kisses Kiss, Sleek Vixen, MAC Red and MAC Ronnie Red.

Illamasqua Tramp.  I purchased this at their last sale for 5 GBP, which is about the cheapest you will ever find an Illamasqua lipstick for.  It's a classic tue red, but does tend to 'ball' a little on my lips.

Secret Kisses Velvet and Secret Kisses Kiss.  These 2 lipsticks I wear almost daily.  They are a perfect formula and long lasting.  If I had to cull my lipsticks drastically, these 2 would make the cut.  $14.99 RRP or on sale for $10 at times.

Sleek Vixen.  An Ode to Sleek Makeup!  I LOVE all things Sleek as their products are stupidly well priced for such fabulous products.  Their true color lippies, like Vixen, are all insanely pigmented and bargain priced at $6.50. Vixen is leaning towards an orange more than a blue toned red and would look fab on all skintones.

MAC Red.  This color I only have in a sample tube from The Body Needs.  It's richly pigmented and all that we expect from MAC.  I don't grab for it over Ruby Woo or Russian Red, but the sample tubes last for ages and fit nicely into small lucite purses! $3 for sample sizes.

MAC Ronnie Red.  Well, I got this for the tube! (see below)  As it turns out, it's a lovely pink toned red that looks fabulous with my pale skin. Not a typically vintage red but the tube graphics make it a fun red to own!  Sold out online and best bet is to look on eBay for it.  Averages $35+

Artificial light.

Natural light.

Revlon Really Red, Revlon In The Red, Gade Red Signature, Illamasqua Sangers and MUA Bring It.

Revlon Really Red is a great color to keep in the car/extra purse/holiday travel bag.  It's pigmented, matte and a rich red color.  I say to keep in the car, etc, because this sells for $2 at online retailers such as Brands Exclusive, Ozsale and Buy Invite (Australia only). Otherwise, Revlon is sold at every Target/Kmart and Chemist.

Revlon In The Red is another color I picked up for $2 online.  It's a brick red and not my prefered color.  If this color is what rocks your boat, then it's a great pick due to it's pigmentation and formula.

Gade Red Signature is a color I got in a monthly Lust Have It box several months ago.  It's a fab little compact lippie, with a push button release.  It's a very bright Red, not blue toned at all and would suit a blonde haired vintage Queen.  RRP unknown.

Illamasqua Sangers.  Another lippie on my wishlist I crossed off on their 5 GBP sale.  Your typical blue toned Red that I absolutely did not need another example off, but purchased anyway.  16 GBP RRP if you purchase non sale time.

MUA Bring It.  This is my everyday, at home red.  It's not insanely pigmented at first but builds up to be quite bright if you wish.  I don't wish, so I leave it at a swipe.  It's just a nice, not too bright or strong Red.  It also comes with a glitter lipgloss which Miss 4 uses regularly!  Best part? 1.50 GBP or about $2.30 AUD!  Bargain!

I also swatched my remaining 50 lipsticks in Orange, Purples and Vintage Vamps.  Are you interested in swatches of those as well?

What red don't I have but you think I ABSOLUTELY need?!

  1. What an awesome collection of crimson lippies! I tend to be the type of person who rarely deviates once I find something I love, so at the moment, I only have about three reds in my make-up case, of which I wear my beloved Russian Red about 99% of the time.

    1. How I wish I was the loyal to one or two colors type! I just can't help myself when I see those little red tubes!

  2. Wow! I think you have more reds than me. I've just found the perfekt red and now it's already discontinued. Ough! Why is it always so? :(

    1. It is, or was, Oriflame Tripple Core Love Red. Lovely medium red, soft and comfy on the lips, and a little sheer. Just perfect, and gone! Ough! :) Now the hunt for another perfect red goes on again, sigh.

  3. I'm a Lady Danger gal, myself. It's an electric, glowy, orangey red that has become my go-to shade in the last year! I can't pull off blue toned reds at all. They make me look like I've been playing in mommy's makeup!

    1. I do have Lady Danger but on me it comes across as a true orange.

  4. Yes, I'd love to see the other colors. I don't usually wear bright lipsticks myself (they make your lips look bigger, and mine are plenty big already... I'm always afraid it'll come across as 'Oh, look! Here come Leisel's lips... and I guess she came along with them.' Yes, I know I'm weird. I also think my face looks like a squished Barbie head if I don't wear my glasses or create camouflage with my makeup, because my eyes are too close together.)

  8. Thanks for the swatches - reds are the hardest shade for most of us to get the right ones for our skin tones. I loved you in the MAC Ronnie Red. I find for me in reds I need a burgundy leaning one or a strawberry one. I have a really old Lancome I bought about 8 tubes of and still pull that out in summer and I have a Tarte Lipsurgance I wear often in winter that is not made now anyway but I think I have like 5 of them stashed as well as at least 3 or 4 more in purses and in my bathroom lipstick stash. It's called Moody. There is another pinky red from Tarte I like also called Fever that I can wear yr round. If we had a MAC counter anywhere short of 525 miles I would have gone and looked at Ronnie Red when I saw it come out in the Archie Girls collection - thou now I am really stuck on lip stains - hard to find 'em. I love IT Cosmetics lipstains but they all turn pink on me and none are red (yet). I have a couple lip balms that are red and I like the color but they are loaded with petroladium which I try to avoid when I can in lip products.

    1. Yes, reds are a little tricky to get right...hence why we need to buy so many of them!! Ronnie Red is a fab pink toned red if you can afford to splurge on the cost of it.

  11. I, too, LOOOVE reds!
My all-time-favorite berry red is Illamasqua Drench, but it's discontinued. :(
Salacious, by the same brand, is also beautiful, but is more muted, and I love my brights.
I adore Illamasqua Sangers - on NW15 me, it's the perfect deep-but-not-dark true neutral red.
Paula Dorf Legend is a favorite, as well.
