The Funeral Dress

Unfortunately, one of our dear friends suffered a massive heartattack last week and very sadly passed away. His funeral was Monday.

These days, it seems I am Funeral 'old school' by thinking you should show the proper respect by not only dressing up in your best, but also to wear black.

This is my nicest funeral dress...is it a little morbid to show pictures??

Miss 3 loves these photo shoots and it's very hard to get her out of the shots!

I brightened it up a little by adding red accessories.

This was the first time I got my hair to behave into a passable little knot roll thingo at the back.

I love my carved Bakelite.

And my cherries necklace.

  1. Sorry for your loss, I'm sure your friend would have appreciated you being true to yourself and sticking to your style whilst still being respectful. When my grandmother passed away I wore a black dress to her funeral, but I wore a green scarf with it because when I think of her I think of flowers and her garden, so it seemed right.

  2. I am sorry for your loss.

I am also "old school" about funeral attire. I believe that one should dress well and wear black.

I think that you looked lovely.

  5. Thanks Helly. I would seem weird wearing bright colors, but I do know some actually request that in their funeral preparations.

Thanks Ice Queen. I wish everyone felt the way we did.....people turned up wearing jeans for goodness sake.

Thanks Michelle for your lovely condolences!

Thanks Silhouette. He was a serious joker so he probably would have preferred everyone to wear a clown suit!

  7. I'm so sorry for your loss.

I'm old school too and always wear something formal, and usually black, to funerals.

I think you look absolutely beautiful and I love your cheerful accessories - and not morbid at all to show us pics - thank you!

  8. Sorry to hear about your friend...I do love the way you accessorized your black dress tho! Black is a good color for funerals, but it doesn't HAVE to look so mournful. The cherries, red shoes and bracelets gave it just the right accent of color. I think funerals often just make the mourners even sadder. Of course it's not fun to lose a loved one, but wouldn't it be nice if the funeral could be a day when we remembered how much we enjoyed having the departed one in our lives, more than just focusing on the fact that he/she is no longer with us?!

  9. Lily-Rose. Yes, they are rhinestone cherries! I didn't make them, they came from ebay.

Sarah. Welcome back and congrats on your new house!

Miss Meadows. Yes, you are 100% right. His memorial was nice and focused on his good deeds so it was nice to hear that about him. Thanks for your comment!

  10. I'm so sorry sweetie. That's such a shocking thing to happen to your friend. It's very nice that you've dressed up for the funeral. Many people just wear casual clothing. It's nice that you showed your respect for him but dressing well. You look beautiful.
